Canada

Finally doing it!

 Goal Accomplishment Criteria

I’m physically there for at least 6 months, preferably without putting my studies on hold.

 Personal resources

Time, good marks, international expertise, alternative (continental) viewpoint

 Goal ecological compatibility

Basically it all depends on the excellent time-management in the next few months, which in turn depends on my health (physical and emotional) and discipline

Why do I want it:

1. Hayssam

2. Experience from the other semisphere: analytic school (think of Koch, Schwab, Ossi)

3. Academic English skills

4. Initially multicultural society: simulation of Hobbes atomic structure of society: bellum omnium contra omnes; contemporary contract theories of Rawls vs. Honneth's approach

5. Beautiful nature in Canada :) Running with bears!!!

  1. Deadlines!

    Check ASAP

    1. DAAD

    2. Fulbright

    3. Research students

    4. Visa

    5. Add the corresponding deadlines to other steps in the goal!

  2. Emails to profs

    1. Find relevant professors: pick a few

    2. Check their CVs, articles, background

    3. Send introduction letters

  3. English test

    1. What tests are accepted? Pick one

    2. Check the deadline

    3. Registration

    4. Preparation

  4. Visa application

What are the conditions? Do I need to have a certain sum of money on my bank account? Deadlines? Processing times?

  5. Compatibility

Even if all the previous steps work out and I can go there for 'research purposes' XD, how is this compatible with my studies back here? Do I have to make up leeway in the next two semesters? How many ECTS do I have to gain in the last semester? Do I want to complete my Master in 2 years? Is it only one Kolloquium I need to participate in? Can I/do I have to already do this in the next winter term? Do I have to be physically there on a weekly basis?

When does the summer term start in Canada and the winter term finish in Germany? When do I have to be there the latest? Are there any conditions on this part at all if I come as research student?

  6. Horizon

Are there any continental schools in Canada in general? Search for alternative institutes or centres: one thing is phd, another one is working there

  7. Plan B, C, D

In case it doesn't work out with research purposes.

    Other options:

    • DAAD Praktikum
    • Tourist visa for 6 months while I'm writing my Master thesis.

Advantages: no fees, no organisational extreme (!) time expenditure

Disadvantages: I will die completing my Master in two terms. Is this even possible?

    • Premarital visa
  • 320
